God gives Abram one word that most of us hate: “Go.” No map, no timeline, no cost estimate. That single command in Genesis 12 exposes a pressure point for a lot of Christian men: we say we want God’s will, but we also want guaranteed safety before we obey.

I’m Brian Crum, and in the first episode of Everyday Carry, I walk through why Abram’s call wasn’t just a change of address. In the ancient world, “country, kindred, and father’s house” meant identity, protection, inheritance, and your name. So when God calls Abram out, He’s calling him away from the very thing that made him feel secure, and asking him to move on nothing but God’s voice and promise. That’s why this line hits hard: comfort and calling are rarely at the same address.

Then we bring it home with a practical daily charge for men’s discipleship. Somewhere in your life there’s a “go” you’ve been treating like a “someday” a hard conversation, a decision, a door God already opened that you keep walking past because you can’t see where it leads. Hey everyone, welcome to the very first episode of Everyday Carry, a daily word for men. I'm your host, Brian Crum, and uh I am so glad you are with me here on this very first episode of the podcast. Uh, if you weren't aware already, this podcast is actually brought to you by men's ministry.online. Uh, it is an online hub, a resource for all men of all ages. Abram’s Call Before The Details

This week we are jumping right in, starting with a man who had no idea what he was walking into, uh, kind of like me and this podcast, and also probably like some of you guys are feeling right now listening to it, because we're not really sure what God's gonna do, where God's gonna take it, or what's gonna happen, what's gonna be the outcome. But we're here, so good job on that. Thanks. But in Genesis 12, 1, God speaks to a man named Abram, and he says this he says, Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. Do you notice what's missing in that sentence? God doesn't tell him where, he doesn't tell him how long, he doesn't tell him what it'll cost. All Abram gets from God is go. Now, later, he gets a promise, but that comes in the next verse after Abram has already agreed. So, that's the order though, that if we're honest, a lot of us want that reversed, right? We want to see the whole plan before we take the first step. We we want to see the big map printout before we ever hit the road. We want to see the paycheck before we take the job or see the outcome before we have the hard conversation. We want to see the healing before we forgive. And when God doesn't hand that to us, we call it waiting on him. But if we're honest, a lot of the time it's just us stalling. So, here's what that text actually meant to the men who

Comfort Rarely Lives With Calling

first heard it. You see, in the ancient world, your country, your kindred, your father's house, that was your entire identity. Without those things, you didn't have anything. That was your protection, your inheritance, your social clout, that was your name. God wasn't just asking Abram to take a trip. No, he was asking him to walk away from everything that made him who he was. And that was all based on nothing but a voice and a promise. And Abram went. Genesis 12 4 says, So Abram went as the Lord told him. Brother, I gotta tell you, comfort and calling are rarely at the same address. If you're waiting on God's will to feel safe before you obey it, you may be waiting on the wrong thing. Abram didn't get safety, he got a promise and a command. He had to move before he saw either one of those get fulfilled, though. And that, my friends, leads us to today's charge.

Name Your Go And Take It

So here's what you're carrying today. Somewhere in your life, there is a go that you've been treating like a someday. Maybe it's a conversation or a decision, maybe it's a door that God's already opened that you keep walking past because you can't see where it leads. You prayed for it, it opened, and you just refuse to walk through it. So here's what I want you to do. Today, name it. Out loud, on paper, quiet to yourself. It doesn't matter. I'm not asking you to view the whole plan. I'm just saying take the first step. Name it and take it. All right, let's go do it. And I will see you back again here tomorrow, brother.
