Every man carries something, but not every burden belongs on your shoulders. We open with a blunt question that cuts through noise: are you carrying what God gave you to carry, or are you hauling around an excuse that keeps you stuck? From there, we step into Exodus 3 and 4 where God calls Moses from a burning bush and Moses does what many of us do when the assignment feels too big he resists.

Moses doesn’t just hesitate once. He piles up objections: “Who am I,” “What if they don’t believe me,” “I’m not eloquent,” “Send someone else.” We talk about how those lines show up today in Christian men who want to lead but feel unqualified at home, at church, or in hard conversations. The surprising part is what God does not do. He doesn’t argue Moses into better self-esteem. He doesn’t pretend Moses is secretly talented.

God gives one answer that changes everything: “I will be with you.” That’s the hinge of the whole message. Calling is not powered by confidence, charisma, or a perfect track record. It’s backed by God’s presence. We close with a clear charge you can act on today: stop auditing yourself before you obey, then take the next faithful step, whether that’s praying with your family, stepping into a role you’ve avoided, or showing up with courage in a conversation you’ve been delaying.

Moses Pushes Back On Calling

Hey men, welcome back to episode number two of Everyday Carry, a daily word for men. I'm your host, Brian Crumb. Like I said, this is episode number two, so thanks for sticking with me so far. Uh, good news, uh, I'm still here, I'm still your host, so that means they haven't fired me yet, so I guess I'm doing something right. Yesterday, Abram left everything on a promise, and today we're gonna meet a man doing everything he can to stay put. Exodus 3 11, God has just told Moses from a burning bush of all places that he's gonna walk into Pharaoh's palace and lead an entire nation, the nation of Israel, out of slavery. And you know what Moses' response is? Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt? Can you imagine saying that to God? Hey, God, I know you just told me here's what I'm going to do. I don't think you know who you're talking to here. I'm nothing special. And

God’s Answer Is Simple Presence

if you read the rest of Exodus 3 and 4, you'll see that this isn't just a one-time hesitation. It's not just a single moment of weakness. It's actually five separate objections in a row. First, it's who am I? And second, it's what if they don't believe me? Well, I'm not eloquent. Send someone else. Every excuse that a man can reach for, Moses reaches for it. Chances are you may have even reached for one of those excuses already this week. And it's only Tuesday. It's alright. Here's the deal. If Moses pushed through, so can you. Stick with me. So here's the part that we skip past way too fast a lot.

Why Self-Esteem Isn’t The Standard

God never argues with Moses' self-assessment. You know that? Read it again for yourself. But he doesn't say, Moses, no, no, no, you're you're wrong about yourself. You're actually a very gifted speaker. That's why I chose you. He doesn't tell him, hey, oh, you know, build up your confidence. You pick up your bootstraps and let's just go. Lace up your sandals, let's move. You got this, I believe in you. No, no, no. Instead, in verse 12, he just says, I will be with you. That's the whole answer. Not you're capable, not I believe in you, I will be with you. Now you see, this matters because a lot of men today have been sold a version of calling that runs through self-esteem. You find your strength, believe in yourself, you've got what it takes. But that's not at all what happened at the Burning Bush. You see, Moses was right that he wasn't eloquent. He was actually right that he wasn't the obvious choice, that he probably shouldn't have been chosen by all standards that we understand. But God called him anyways. And the qualification wasn't Moses' talent, it was God's presence. That alone should absolutely wreck the excuse that you've been leaning on. The I'm not ready. I'm not the guy for this. Maybe someone more qualified should lead this. Maybe you're right. But since when was that the requirement? Hmm. That's kind of my

Stop Auditing Yourself Before Obeying

point. And that brings us to today's charge. Alright, this one. It might be simple for some of you guys, and it might be a little more difficult for others. But I want you to try this. Today, I want you to stop auditing yourself before you obey. Alright? Whatever God has put in front of you, whether that's leading your family in prayer, maybe it's having a hard conversation with your son, maybe it's stepping up and being a kinder person to your daughter, who knows? Or if it's stepping into a role at church that you've talked yourself out of one, too many times. Whatever it is, I want you to stop auditing yourself before you obey. Because the qualification was never your resume. Instead, it's God's presence. Alright, you got it? Stop auditing yourself. Now let's move. Carry on, brothers.
