Mark 2 And A Packed House

right. We're gonna kick off in Mark chapter two. This is one of my favorite stories. Jesus is teaching in a house in Capernaum and it is packed. I mean, we're talking wall to wall, there's no standing room at this point. It's literally shoulder to shoulder. I'm sure you've been to some concerts, it kind of felt that way, right? This is probably worse because everybody wanted a look at Jesus, they just wanted to be in the same space. And then into that crowd comes four men, and they're carrying someone, they're carrying a paralyzed man, their friend, on a mat. Verse 4 tells us plainly, and when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let

The Roof Gets Torn Open

down the bed on which the paralytic lay. Now I want you to stop and picture that for a second. These aren't professionals, and this is a mud and thatched roof over someone's house. Four grown men. I'm talking, I know me. I'm like 5'11, 200 pounds, I'm stout, bruh. And uh they climb up to the top of the roof and they start digging through it. Then they lower their friend down on ropes right in front of the room full of strangers because the front door wasn't an option. Can you imagine the nerve that it took to do that? And here's what that text is actually showing us, though. You see, this isn't just a story about Jesus' power, right? Like that's definitely a part of it, and it comes in later in the passage. But this opening scene is actually about what those four men were willing to do to get their friend in front of Jesus. They didn't ask if it was appropriate, they didn't wait for the crowd to go away, they tore a hole

if our own life ever fell apart, right? But here's the real question. Are you on someone else's list? Are you the kind of man who people could count on to tear off a roof for them? Or are you the kind of man who sits by and waits to be invited into somebody's mess? Which, of course, that leads me to our Monday charge.

Monday Charge Reach Out Today

So here's the carry for today. I want you to think of one man in your life who's paralyzed by something right now. Whether it's addiction, isolation, grief, maybe it's a marriage falling apart or a faith gone cold. Don't wait for that man to ask. I want you to reach out to him today. You know who I'm talking about already. Most of us listening right now already have at least one guy in mind that's going through something. Be the roof terror for that guy. You got it? And uh go out, be the mat carrier, tear the roof off, and bring him to Jesus.
