The hardest thing to carry is the thing you refuse to name. We wrap up the week with a direct, Scripture-grounded challenge from James 5:16: “confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” I’m Brian Crumb, and I’m pressing on a truth most of us learn the long way. When we try to manage sin privately, we don’t get stronger, we get stuck.

We talk about why “white knuckling” temptation in silence feels noble but usually turns into the same cycle of failure, shame, and zero progress. Isolation isn’t a strategy for holiness. Most of the time, it’s the oxygen that keeps the struggle alive. Real Christian accountability doesn’t start with vague hints or generalities. It starts when a man brings his burden into the light with a trusted brother who will actually pray and follow up.

Then we give you a simple weekend move you can do right away: confess one specific sin or struggle to the brother you trust, name it clearly, ask him to pray, and ask him to check back in next week. Alright, another week down, brother. Way to go. I am Brian Crumb, and that's right, we're closing out week two, right where this whole idea of Matt carrying eventually has to lead. And that is James 5, verse 16. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. You see, this week we've talked about carrying other men, tearing off roofs, bearing burdens, sharpening each other with hard truth. But James, well, he flips the lens on us today.

Why Private Sin Keeps Winning

Confession is a burden that you let someone else help you carry. It's not a weight you drag around alone in your silence. But you see, here's what most of us try to do instead. We want to manage our sin privately. We white knuckle the temptation, we hide the failure, we tell ourselves that dealing with it is between us and God alone. And then we wonder why the same sin keeps coming back around year after year. Maybe it's day after day. No ground ever gained. It's because you can't do it on your own. James is telling us straight up that isolation isn't a strategy for holiness. Most of the time, it's actually the very thing keeping that sin alive and thriving. Notice the connection, though, that James draws here. Confess to one another, pray for one another, that you may be healed. You see, the healing here is tied to the confession made in community, not just confession made privately to God alone. That does matter, but that's not the whole picture.

Confession In Community Brings Healing

There's something about bringing sin into the light in front of a brother who's actually going to pray for you afterwards. That starts to break the power. Now, this is the hardest kind of mat carrying there is. Carrying your own mat to someone else and then letting them see what's actually on it. Because it costs us our pride. It costs the image that you've built, the one that you try to protect so hard every day, every week, every month, every year. But it's the same principle that we've hit on all week. You see, a man was never designed to carry the weight of sin, shame, or struggle by himself. He was designed for brotherhood, strong enough to bear it with him.

The Weekend Challenge And Next Steps

Which brings us to our Friday charge. So here's the carry for this weekend. I want you to confess one specific sin or struggle to that trusted brother that you've identified. Now, don't be vague about it. Okay? Name it specifically. It's okay. He'll carry it with you, I promise. Ask him to pray for you about it. And ask him to check back in with you on it next week, too. Now, I know that's not comfortable. I've been there, I've done that. Accountability matters. So do it anyways.
